Ian de Verteuil, head of portfolio strategy at CIBC World Markets, joins BNN Bloomberg to discuss strategies for ESG investing. He says the objective is to incorporate the risks and opportunities associated with ESG issues into the investment process. He notes the focus is often on a very narrow part of ESG, namely, carbon emissions, and that could lead to surprising results like Russian or Saudi oil producers scoring over their Canadian counterparts who have more responsible environmental policies.
