Risk of overshooting is higher in Canada than in the U.S.: Economist Benjamin Tal
Benjamin Tal, deputy chief economist at CIBC Capital Markets, joins BNN Bloomberg to discuss why remarks from BoC Governor Tiff Macklem and U.S. Fed Chair Jerome Powell on Tuesday sent divergent messages on the central banks’ rate roadmaps. He says the Fed has to be more hawkish to deter a rally in the 10-year Treasury rate, while the BoC’s monetary policy has a quicker impact due to the shorter-term mortgages in Canada.
