(Bloomberg) -- Comcast Corp. unveiled plans for a new DreamWorks-themed area at its Universal Studios park in Orlando, Florida.

The land, scheduled to open next year, will feature play areas and attractions tied to the Shrek, Trolls and Kung Fu Panda films, which came with the company’s $3.8 billion acquisition of DreamWorks Animation in 2016. The area will also include characters from Gabby’s Dollhouse, a preschool series from DreamWorks that runs on Netflix.

The land’s interactive elements will include character meet and greets, dance performances and a show, according to Brian Robinson, chief creative officer at Universal Destinations & Experiences division. He said younger kids in particular want those kinds of interactions.

“They want to meet the characters,” he said in an interview. “They want to step into what the world is. And they want to play in it.”

The four-acre land replaces KidZone, a decades-old play area in the theme park that closed in January that had attractions tied to Woody Woodpecker and Curious George.

Universal has been trying to broaden its appeal, from its core teen and young adult focus, to capture more families with children under eight. That’s a market where rival Walt Disney Co. has long had a lock.

Universal unveiled plans for a new family-focused regional park in the Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas, earlier this year. It’s also building a third theme park called Epic Universe in Orlando scheduled for 2025.
