(Bloomberg) -- Freezing weather across northwest Europe this week will put further pressure on gas inventories, while the south and east of the region will be unseasonably warm.
The north of the UK is facing snow and ice warnings on Monday, with freezing temperatures forecast for much of the week. The icy weather will spread to France and Germany from Wednesday, boosting heating demand at a time when gas storage facilities in Europe are being depleted at the fastest rate since 2018.
An amber alert for snow and ice is in place for parts of Norway, where temperatures in Oslo will fall to as low as -13.5C (7.7F) by Sunday, according to Maxar Technologies Inc. Freezing rain and snow are forecast for the eastern part of the Swiss Alps on Monday, with additional warnings for Italy’s Piemonte and Aosta Valley.
The cold snap isn’t impacting all of Europe. The Iberian peninsula will be warmer than the seasonal average, while the Balkans will be as much as 10C above the norm, according to Maxar.
