(Bloomberg) -- A fuel depot owned by Eni SpA near Florence, Italy suffered an explosion and fire on Monday, the company said in a statement.
The local fire brigade is working to extinguish the blaze at the site in the town of Calenzano, Eni said, noting that the flames are confined to a loading-shelter area and aren’t affecting the facility’s fuel-storage tanks. The company is investigating the cause and impact of the incident.
Two people died, eight are injured, and four are missing as rescue efforts are ongoing, news agency Ansa reported, citing the prefecture of Florence.
Firefighters have had nine vehicles on site since about 10:30 a.m. local time, a spokesperson for the National Firefighters Service said by phone, confirming earlier reports on the incident by Italian media.
